Innistrad – Magic the Gathering

Innistrad Block

Innistrad is the first set in the block and will be released September 30, 2011. It is the fifty-seventh expansion for Magic. Innistrad Design Team    – Mark Rosewater (lead) Richard Garfield Jenna Helland Graeme Hopkins Tom LaPille Yeah, you read that right. Mr Richard Garfield himself is making a triumphant return to Magic the gathering. Here are the few of the spoilers that have come about already. The second set will already be called Dark Ascension. INNISTRAD: Innistrad consists of 264 cards, while the latest large sets (Shards of Alara, Zendikar and Scars of Mirrodin all had 249. This set has the most top-down design that has ever been. Jace, Memory Adept – M12 Magic the Gathering

Buy More Cards News

First they ban Jace, then they give us a new one. Not sure how I feel about Jace Memory Adept yet.Seems pretty crazy that second ability. Filling your hand every turn. Abusable with Ivory Tower or yes, Venser’s Journal. But thats the least of our worries, with all this card-going-to-the-graveyard stuff. The card was spoiled on G4TV’s Attack of the Show during their June 23rd broadcast.  More to come! Tweet This Post

New Phyrexia Excitement

New Phyrexia

New Phyrexia as partially quoted from DailyMTG : What a perfect summarization of the latest Magic the Gathering set. Phyrexians serve a similar function to the extraterrestrials in alien invasion movies: mysterious outsiders we can’t talk to who have completely alien moral systems and don’t care about our well-being one iota. Now that they have won, they’re free to do whatever they want to Mirrodin. The things they do, for contrast’s sake, should be things that we wouldn’t have seen happening beforehand. Seeing as the Phyrexians are an amoral and viral swarm of mechanical monsters seemingly controlled by a hive mind intent on taking over the Multiverse, they’re bound to stumble across some actions that strike normal humans like us … Continue reading →

New Phyrexia Spoiler – Top 5 Cards

General | New Phyrexia

I’m pretty excited about this upcoming Magic the Gathering set. I’ve decided to make a top 5 list regarding the cards i’m the most interested in on New Phyrexia. Infect, big creatures, equipment, and finishing off a great storyline make New Phyrexia the great culmination of the invasion that started so long ago (where art thou Urza?). Spanning the Brother’s War (Antiquities, the Dark, Ice Age, Urza’s Block, Invasion, Apocalypse, Planeshift, etc), and the all have finally become one with Phyrexia. So without further ado, let my New Phyrexia top 5 begin. Arm with Aether is the quintessential blue card. Not that there are a ton of blue beats, but plenty of unblockable ones. Slap this one out and suddenly … Continue reading →

New Phyrexia – Sword of War and Peace

New Phyrexia

One of the cards I’m most interested in picking up is Sword of War and Peace. Not only is this one of the best equipment cards ever printed it is just so cool. The name kind of reminds me of the Sword of Truth from the Terry Goodkind series. But lets not digress, this power in this card is the major life swings you are obtaining with your opponents. You are rewarded for having a full hand and drawing cards while your opponents are encouraged to empty their hands quickly. I’m imagining some excellent blue builds working with this sword and Aeon Chronicler or Kami of the Crescent Moon or even Howling Mine. There are lots of awesome options for … Continue reading →

New Phyrexia Primer Videos

New Phyrexia

Wizards of the Coast is upping the anti this release and increasing their video quality of their primer videos. The first gives an overview of the New Phyrexia and spoils some juicy rares. The second goes into the new mana symbols, PHYREXIAN MANA! Crazy. In a nutshell if you see the Phyrexian Mana symbol you can pay 2 life instead of the color of that mana. Lastly the third video explains the Chancellors cycle and how you can reveal them at the beginning of the game if one is in your hand for a triggered ability. All in all I could do with out the slapstick humor but always enjoy the primer videos. Tweet This Post

Elesh Norn Grand Cenobite – New Phyrexia

News from WotC | New Phyrexia - Mirrodin Pure

Well the first card out of the gate for New Phyrexia is kinda like a Crovax Ascendant Hero on steroids. An EDH general for sure, this is the first card to be spoiled out of New Phyrexia, the third set of the Scars block. In limited, this card will be totally awesome once it hits the table. I have a feeling that each of the Phyrexian colors will just mimic the color wheel of Magic. With blue Phyrexia being all about countermagic, green and black will of course sport serious infect, and white/red are still yet to be unknown (thus, the new mechanic perhaps?). Kinda like an entire set with mostly Phyrexian cards just themed to the proper color mechanics. … Continue reading →

Knights vs Dragons with new Knight of the Reliquary art

Duel Decks

All you duel decks fans out there. Knights vs Dragons is coming and it is going to be awesome. Today Wizards of the Coast spoiled new art for Knight of the Reliquary. Apparently there is some confusion about this release being an April fools joke. We are assured by Monty Ashley that this is in fact a real product Wizards is selling. Personally I can’t wait to get my hands on this installment and breath some fire. Tweet This Post

Announcing Duel Decks: Knights vs. Dragons Valor and Steel Clash with Rage and Fire! “The greatest knights have gathered together to once and for all end the reign of terror that has plagued their lands for centuries. Holy paladins, noble cavaliers, and swift skyhunters all answer the call to hunt dragons to the death and restore order to the realm. For dragonkind, the answer is simple—incinerate the invaders! Enraged goblin minions pour from the mountain crags to repel the intruders, but that’s only to give the majestic hellkites time to take to the skies and unleash a firestorm that no knight could hope to survive.  A world hangs in the balance. Will you enter the battle under the banner of … Continue reading →

Fold into Aether – Fifth Dawn Card Review

Deck Tech | Information | Good the Bad and the Ugly | Information

One of my most favorite counterspells, Fold into Aether sports both versatility and usefulness. Originally labeled as one of the ‘worst counterspells of all time’, this card just arrived several blocks too early to really sport game ending creatures. The Good: You opponent won’t even know what you have up your sleeve. A card that counters something is usually ok. A card that lets you play a creature out of your hand for free is a sweet gig. A card that lets you do both is a trip to the beach and a free week of vacation. The possibilities here are endless. Counter your Ornithopter to play your Blightsteel Colossus from your hand. Counter anything with Fold into Aether, something … Continue reading →

Mirrodin Besieged Prerelease recap – Buymorecards.net

Events | Mirrodin Besieged | Scars of Mirrodin | Deck Tech | Standard

Today at Buymorecards.net we got our first look at Mirrodin Besieged. Unlike previous parties, each participant at the Mirrodin Besieged prerelease had to devote to an alliance with either the Mirran resistance faction, or the Phyrexian horde. At the place we did the prerelease party, it would have seemed as if the participants were split almost 50-50; with each player receiving 3 Scars of Mirrodin booster packs, and three of the aforementioned faction packs. The downfall of this effort was that each faction had only a few viable options in gameplay. For instance, if you were a Phyrexia fan, you were relegated to the singular theme of black/green infect; and hopefully you were lucky enough to sport cards such as … Continue reading →

Phyrexian Rebirth – Mirrodin Besieged MTG Card Review

Information | Good the Bad and the Ugly | Mirrodin Besieged

Phyrexian Rebirth. A true board sweeper for 6. Let me exclaim that I think this card is pretty awesome. Phyrexian Rebirth really stoked my creativity when I first caught a glimpse of reanimated salvage lumbering off to create some havoc. Lets break it down. The Good: Anytime a card starts off with ‘Destroy all creatures‘ and there are at least another four lines of text – you know you are in for some good ol’ fashioned excitement. Martial Coup 2.0 is a pretty awesome upgrade from what we have been used to. A sorcery that packs some serious punch and destroys what needs destroyed (i.e, everything), plus you get a big dude to beat with is a real treat. Rarity-wise … Continue reading →
